LEED

LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is an international environmental certification system developed in the United States, which takes a holistic approach to a building’s environmental performance. The US Green Building Council (USGBC) is the independent third party that certifies the building. There are 6,700 LEED-certified buildings in the world and many more are on their way.

LEED consists of a number of mandatory and criteria for which points are set.
Criteria areas are:

  • Innovation and design
  • Location and construction site
  • Energy and atmosphere
  • Water
  • Material and resources
  • Indoor environment

Based on the number of points obtained by the construction project, four different levels are achieved in LEED: certified, silver, gold or platinum. A “score card” is used as a tool to compile the criteria achieved and produce an account of the building’s performance. A building certified as Platinum has a very high environmental performance.

Construction of Klövern’s first concept building has started in Kista. This construction is due to a newly-signed lease with Ericsson which includes a new office building of almost 27,000 sq.m.

This building will be certified in accordance with LEED Gold. This means, for example, that an extra large number of cycle places will be created and fewer garage spaces with a view to encouraging use of environmentally friendly means of transport.

* LEED “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” is a world-leading system for environmental classification of buildings, developed by the US Green Building Council. LEED consists of more environmental aspects than the Swedish system and there are as yet no Swedish interpretations of these requirements. Based on the number of points that the construction project obtains, four different levels are achieved within LEED: certified, silver, gold or platinum.
